As I get older I make less visible mistakes because I'm more cautious. So I acquire more responsibility and have more unsupervised control. Thus my mistakes now cause more calamity.
When you're older and tell someone younger "don't do this" and they call you a hypocrite because you did it, too:
"Yes, that's why I am telling you not to do it. Doing it was my mistake. You need to learn to make your own mistakes and stop copying mine!"
