I don't know who else they'd run that isn't as functionally demonic, but I don't see Newsom's current PR push lasting. He's too weird and off-putting for a national stage. He always looks like the opening scene of American Psycho and always sounds like he's giving the same monologue. Pete Buttigieg's policy platform was standard
The problem with Democrats these days is when they get up to the podium in debates and say that "I am going to do what Trump is going to do but a bit watered down and a little bit woke" it doesn't grab anyone.
They're all ideologically terrible, but I think he's uniquely the worst aesthetically. He looks like he's playing the devil in a bad 1990s movie.
He's Clinton-coded, but unlike ol' Bill he lacks the affable charm that would make anyone in middle America trust him.
I disagree on the strongest terms. MSM managed to get a corpse nominated in 2020 largely by repeating ad nauseam that he's electable. Then the corpse won basically unopposed due to COVID19 giving Don just enough rope to hang himself.
They ran Biden in 2020 sure, but then people actually saw Joe Biden doing public appearances and it was so detrimental to the party that they spent four years hiding him and gaslighting the public. When they ran him in 2024 without the COVID bump, they knew he was going to lose. They swapped him out for a female clone, faced immense backlash because she would have lost another primary vote (and she was the first to have to drop out in 2020), and lost every swing state because nobody in Ohio likes a polished Californian astroturf person.
However bad things are in 2028, that's three more years of democrats like Newsom alienating their electorate by being like him. 2020 proved that Old Gavin Newsom won't do a thing about COVID except lie and cheat the public out of relief funds. In 2024 we knew the economy was about to implode and the country was committing a genocide, but Female Gavin Newsom didn't win because everyone knew she was going to be No Rizz Hitler.
If you want to hedge your bets on history repeating rather than rhyming, base that off 2024 instead of 2020. 2024 is when they tried the same trick twice. 2028 is when they try the same trick three times and I can afford even fewer groceries.
A huge part of the COVID bump was that, on top of trump being blamed for economic conditions, he didn't get to campaign and Biden didn't need to. That might be equalised in 2028 if the republicans fail to get someone decent at campaigning, and none of the likely candidates right now can hold a candle to Trump's empty podium.
If I had to bet on anything, it'd be hot potato for the next few elections until either another war of aggression or some charismatic left liberal doing some reforms that'll be undone by the next decade.
The 2020 primary was more complicated than that.
Biden was dead in the water until the eve of Super Tuesday. Bernie had a strong lead coming out of the early states despite the best efforts of the media. Then you had Obama coordinate the centrist candidates to drop out and endorse Biden, and the media was happy to treat that as normal and good. And all that might not have been enough, but then Covid hit, Bernie suspended his campaign, and Biden told all his elderly supporters to go out and vote anyway.
The media is a big factor, but it was not calling the shots in 2020. That was Obama more than any one person, and all the weirdness of the early pandemic was a huge X factor.
I'm not Usian so it's quite conceivable that I'm missing something. I'll further concede that Obama's person had a great effect as far as individuals go. But I don't think he, or indeed the entire party could've saved Corpse President had the media treated Sanders as they would anyone else. The first two primaries they abused the conflicting information to name some rat the winner, then downplayed Nevada to oblivion. After some apocalyptic melancholy by I think wolf blitzer, and some pats on the back of the late Biden for coming in second, they refused to talk about it. It was 10 straight days of Obama this, Clyburn that and the polls from SC went from a decent win to pure domination, while in the super Tuesday states Sanders lost his lead. Then the days of gloating and the coup de grace, two rats bailed and a certain snake didn't.
I'll also admit that this narrative of mine takes polling at face value. Between October '19 and march '20 I was checking polling for TERF island and Usia constantly. Those two elections had a huge role in my development, I saw what I would've considered legacy media claw back their countries from the possibility of SocDem rule for years. A pox on all their houses.
