Americans fleeing to another Chinese app have got to be some of the dumbest of the dumb that ever did dumb.
It's intentional afaik, this move is primarily motivated by spite. "Oh, you're banning the Singaporean app for being hostile state media? Ok we'll go to actual hostile state media then"

Idk man, I've had to switch instances once or twice, but i stick around each time mostly because I don't have to constantly spin up alts to evade bans and continue spreading paid propaganda. And don't immediately start dumping very suspicious comments immediately after making an account.

Even thought you've been banned I'll respond by saying my information comes from Chinese people. Because I am aware of the potential of propaganda I like to speak directly, face to face, with people of cultures I have questions about. I have been informed by a number of people. I know people from many regions of China who share the same information.

I live with someone who worked there for 6 years and just came to live in my home.
I live with people from every continent on earth and I speak with them.

The average person probably doesn’t give a shit about their own data and since they are just moving from one Chinese app to another then their data was already acquired so why would they care now?
It's not about the data, it's about the control over what you see.
Oh yeah because theres totally not propaganda on any major US social media sites. You really think X or Meta's algorithms are any better? Id argue theyre probably worse actually, so I get why a lot of people would be more comfortable with a chinese app.
It's not the US government controlling the algorithm though, it's a company. China actually controls what byte dance does directly.

I got banned from r/worldnews back in the day for posting a Reuters article about Israel. Then a few years later, they removed the mod of r/dankvideos and deleted 2 years worth of sub history, without telling anybody or announcing anything.
The last thing I saw someone complain about a ban on TikTok was because he made a funny video showing his ability to vomit on command.
No one from TikTok is going to flock to YouTube shorts or Insta reels because it's an immediate downgrade. They just want a painless experience no matter who provides it.
