Short-form video might in fact be the next frontier for federated media. The dev behind a popular photo-sharing platform is diving in headfirst.

The Fediverse might be getting their own mashups of Tiktok, YouTube, and Vine sooner than anyone thought, thanks to the work of one prolific dev spearheading an effort. The best part? He's helping other projects in the space, too.

And no one will use it because mobile apps can’t upload.

donno, i spent about 6 months looking for a federated video service i could host. all of them had issues with mobile uploads on iOS and Android.
Dansup has never published an app so i doubt they’re going to solve the problem no one else has.

The Pixelfed app isn't officially published yet, but you can easily grab a beta build: https://pixelfed.org/mobile-apps

They can upload videos for Stories, I don't think videos can be uploaded elsewhere from mobile, at the moment.

Within the Pixelfed app: tap the Camera button, then the Clock. Tap +Video to add a video story.
