I loathe clickbait titles. The statement:

Any attempt to conflate that reference with President Clinton, or to read sweeping implications onto them, misrepresents both the purpose and the tone of the original correspondence. I want to be absolutely clear on this point so that the public record is not distorted and so that speculation does not unfairly implicate people who are not actually being referenced in those communications.

I still remember seeing a news clip during trump's first term when he was at some dinner seated at a long table (don't remember if it was Helsinki or some other event they both attended), where Putin was on the opposite side and a ways down the table from him. The problem is not a modern/permissive/whatever society but the inability of those on the right wing to tolerate anyone who is different and, as we are now finding out, to attempt to erase them. Love is the answer, and I tend to agree this is not compatible with current politics.
