  • Here's hoping that he actually does what he says and tries to facilitate real change.

    Looking at history, the chances are better that he betrays his publicly-professed ideals and opts to get rich off his office. After Obama, I am too cynical to think Mamdani will actually do what he says, but I'd love to be wrong.

    • The biggest city in America just elected an openly and proudly self-declared democratic socialist. Even worst case scenario for Mamdani's results (whether due to inefficiency at working within the system or cynical exploitation), this is a good sign.

      • Worst case scenario is he gets into office, realizes the extent to which he can monetize it, and does just that.

        Like Obama did.

        I'd love to be wrong, but I'll believe Mamdani actually intends to do what he says when I see it.

      Mandani is not like Obama. He's a real person. I've never put faith in Obama, but if Mamdani turns on the people I don't know if I'd have anything left

        After 40 years of watching people get excited on election night, and then seeing their cost of living increase and the billionaires' wealth increase exponentially, it's unreasonable of you to expect me to be optimistic.

        I lived through "hope and change". I know where this probably ends up. I would love to be wrong.
