Yes, many people in South Africa are still so racist that they do the fried chicken stereotype thing and insinuate that this is a tactic that black majority political parties use to "buy votes".
the idea that black people love fried chicken an inordinate amount is fucking stupid af, because literally fucking everybody loves fucking fried chicken
whenever we do fried chicken at work, which isn't even as good as KFC mind you because the most seasoning the other cooks generally put in the flour (not even a full egg wash---> flour ---> egg ---> bread crumb treatment to make the breading ACTUALLY good) is some lawry's seasoned salt (that I don't even think has MSG? because it doesn't list MSG in the ingredients?) people literally eat 3-5x as much of it as they do anything else.
I've had to do the fried chicken ONCE so far and despite being a relatively slow night (maybe 70% of a "busy" night) we cooked 140Ib of it and they ate every last bit. For comparison, on a general BUSY night they'll eat like maybe 110Ib of protein overall, split between two different entrees. So they might eat like 80Ib of flank steak and 20-30Ib of shrimp or whatever.
Someone coming through the line told me she used to work at a different university in the area and they're more open to the public so people from other schools would show up for their fried chicken and they'd go through like 300-400Ib of it per night with lines out the door and into the street
Someone explained to me once that the reason that fried chicken and watermelon are used in racist stereotypes is because they're messy finger food, that you don't need a knife and fork to eat, and can leave crumbs all over your face. It's trying to hint at ideas of Africans being "primitive savages."
I once went to a Liberal Party conference because I was curious to see neoliberals in their natural habitat. The speeches and debates were as unremarkable and boring as one would expect but the catering was excellent. They had dusted a Liberal Party logo in cocoa on the tiramisu but it tasted amazing.
They already do that, when they complain about BEE (black economic empowerment), they are basically complaining about South Africa's version of DEI. In fact, Musk's talking points against DEI are taken straight from South African racists complaining about BEE
I think there will be a huge meltdown amongst the white body politic when the DA (white liberal opposition party) loses their official opposition status in the next elections this year. There is a huge chance of this happening.

Why do you think that? It's not evident from the polls
Welcome to election time in South Africa. Racists and scratched white liberals become extremely unhinged at this time when black people won't vote for the political party they want them to vote for, and they cannot paternalise black people. They then blame their political losses on black majority political parties like the ANC buying votes with fried chicken and t-shirts. Instead of doing introspection and realising that there is no way a white liberal political party will win an election in South Africa, and that to appeal to the majority of the country, you have to stop being racist.
Mortadella is a derogatory Brazilian term used to describe supporters of the Workers' Party and the political left in general. This term originated due to a far-right conspiracy theory which claims that Mortadella Sandwich, a common snack among the country's working classes, was distributed to PT militants when they took part in movements organized by the party as payment or to buy votes.
I do think the brazilian chuds should run with "neither feed nor pay your armed forces" actually. Like they got my full support there, that is a very good idea
Also is so obvious that the right wing is just being derogatory and or racist with these narratives of "they're buying votes with "<insert cheap popular foodstuff>!" If that actually was the case, all they'd have to do is also provide cheap popular foodstuff, but no it's because their ideological basis and practical actions drive people away and the other group actually cares about people enough to feed them.
There was Joe Slovo, and some of our lawyers lawyers at the ICJ, but yeah as a white person in South Africa I have to agree that a lot of older white people here are just racist. Conversations around race and class are impossible to have, no matter how reasonable you try to be.
Oh yeah and there was Dimitri Tsafendas, the guy who assassinated Hendrik Verwoerd. May he rest in peace and power.
I'm told there's a slur somewhere in this song, but I can never pick it out of the song, so it's probably one I don't know. In any case, better drop a CW on that link to stay on the safe side.
From looking up the lyrics, there's a use of the K-slur (against black South Africans) in the outro, used to mock someone with those beliefs but still used
No it's not a Ponzi scheme, South Africans in general love KFC and Chicken Licken. But the thing is, there are racist connotations with fried chicken and black people that racists like to play into. Essentially what the meme is saying is that black majority political parties "buy" votes by giving people fried chicken at political conferences, and that is the only reason these political parties win elections.
KFC and fried chicken are foods associated with dogwhistles against African Americans. Racists in general are fundamentally uncreative, so South African racists have borrowed this idea as well, so this is just them saying that the native Africans are too stupid and greedy to be allowed to vote, because they'll just vote for whomever offers them KFC.
Why are there so many white people online? Seriously, there are so fucking many. White South Africans alone are way over-represented. Reading the subreddit, you’d think SA was five percent Black.
Because data and internet connections are expensive, and white people are the richest group by far. Twitter is more representative of the country than Reddit though.
I always thought that the proliferation of smartphones in the developing world, esp in parts where a ton of people know English, would mean more diverse social media users.
The pic you posted in the body of your post is actually a good indicator for those of us who have no idea about South African politics about which parties are just right wing trash and which ones are trying to make the country better.
For the right wing trash part, yes I agree those parties are all right wing trash. For the ones trying to make the country better part, I disagree. For instance, the MK party there is Jacob Zuma's political party and unrelated to the MK that fought against apartheid, the ANC is the current ruling party and extremely corrupt, patriotic alliance have messed up some coalitions, the EFF and good have their own issues.
