Authorities say 24-year-old Matthew Ruth fatally shot three Pennsylvania police officers and wounded two others on Sept. 17.

The shooter was stationed inside the house and immediately began firing with an AR-15-style rifle, Barker said.

Investigators also discovered a black lab shot dead in the basement of the house that belonged to the ex-girlfriend of the shooter.

[The ex girlfriend] also told investigators that she believed Ruth had set her pick-up truck on fire while it was sitting in the home's driveway in August, according to an affidavit.

Court documents show Ruth was previously charged with stalking, trespassing, and prowling at night, but had no felony convictions.
- Prime example of how current gun laws do absolutely nothing to protect us.
  Even in my state of WA with some of the most restricted gun laws in the nation a person convicted of violent crimes can still get a hold of a firearm.
  
  That's the fun thing about charging someone with a crime. The accused hasn't been proven guilty yet.
  In this case, they were there to arrest him for stalking. Which may or may not have resulted in a felony, barring him from gun ownership.
  
  A rational observation.
  I too, wish we could ascertain who was going to snap and do bad things before they have to do something crazy enough to be lawfully convicted, but there's gotta be a process.
  
  I'm pretty sure they're clueless. "Restricted gun laws"? What does that even mean?
  
  And an AR-14, which nobody needs. Unless we're all going to use them to overthrow the gestapo like the 2nd amendment intended.
