The definition of a people „asleep at the wheel“. Today we have normalized it so much, you get ridiculed for being „woke“.
I always want to point out that the same people complaining about "woke" things... Were the ones constantly saying "wake up people" with whatever conspiracy theory grasped their homunculus brains for the week.
They were telling everyone to wake up, and are now surprised that people did.
Of course there were consequences, they started with Paperclip and ended with Musk as the puppet-master behind the president of the US.
