Revan343 @lemmy.ca With extra sugar
4 0 Replyflames5123 @lemmy.world It only has 20 calories. I’m all for hating on Prime, but it’s not heavy in sugar at all. Definitely fake sugars. And heavy on caffeine.
5 0 ReplyRevan343 @lemmy.ca Oh, I didn't realize it was mostly artificial sweeteners. I just remembered trying it, and finding it cloyingly sweet compared to gatorade
3 0 ReplyLucidlethargy @sh.itjust.works
The thing about fake sugar is that it's arguably worse for you than the real thing. Fake sugar should really only be prized by diabetics and dentists.
3 0 Replyflames5123 @lemmy.world I dunno. I like drinking Coke Zero cocktails when I’m trying to lose weight. It works. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
1 0 Replytrashgirlfriend @lemmy.world Ah yes, the "we made rats eat 20kg of aspartame and they died" thing
1 1 ReplyFlying Squid @lemmy.world OP
First of all, you are referencing a study on saccharine, not aspartame.
Secondly, this is about obesity.
2 0 Replytrashgirlfriend @lemmy.world Idk, doesn't seem that damning to me considering that people who have more body fat might tend to consume more artificial sweetener and other such factors.
Don't have the time to look into the particular paper and other research right now though.
1 0 ReplyRevan343 @lemmy.ca The basic and essentially unavoidable problem with artificial sweeteners is that tasting sweet food triggers the release of insulin, which then tanks your blood sugar level because you didn't eat any actual sugar, which then makes you hungry, causing you to eat more.
The best way to try and compensate for that is to pair artificial sweeteners with complex carbohydrates and large amounts of fiber, which is of course not how they are usually used

4 0 Replynbyu @lemmy.blahaj.zone It’s some kind of energy drink
3 0 ReplyABCDE @lemmy.world Oh... why would that be handy when water and actual food is going to be useful/needed?
8 0 ReplyTar_Alcaran @sh.itjust.works 1: the guys making it have a minimum purchase every month.
2: they keep selling less than that, costing them money.
3: charitable gifts are tax deductible
17 0 Replysilva @sopuli.xyz I don't think they have issues with selling enough. This shit is huge among children.

Revan343 @lemmy.ca It wouldn't, but the energy drink version isn't what's in the picture anyways; it's basically Gatorade but sweeter

bstix @feddit.dk It isn't an energy drink, because it doesn't have caffeineor sugar. The producer calls it a "hydration drink" which I suppose is somehow different from a "drink".
