    • NAACP LDF: How Police Have Failed LGBTQ+ Communities

Today, violence by state and private actors against LGBTQ+ people of color, particularly against trans people of color, grows, as evidenced by the current wave of anti-trans laws, misinformation campaigns, and transphobic and homophobic violence.

As we continue to push for a vision of public safety that provides for sustainable and healthy communities, it is crucial to remember that the police, and the criminal justice system as a whole, have long denied people safety because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender presentation – and have historically targeted LGBTQ+ people of color in particular. At the same time, LGBTQ+ people of color have an equally lengthy history of bravely countering these abuses and fighting for liberation.

It's The Systems Of Systemic Police Violence Against Minority Groups, Not Any Individualist Sentiments About Bad & Good Apples. Unlike Minority Identities Like Race & LGBTQ+, Policing Is A Chosen Profession, So It Is Not Reductionism When Criticizing The System Of Policing To Use Broad Statements About Police. The Police Are A System, Not A Collection Of People That Were Born Police.
Furthermore, I have worked as a leasing agent in the past, and I will still say Fuck Landlords, Our Society Would Be Better Off Without Them.
      • fair enough! I did not think about it in that way

        • It's fine, I just feel strongly at pushing back at the "well not all..." stories when it comes to things like this.

When talking with prison or policing abolitionists, they don't all push for anarchy... most push for us to solve current problems with our systems not by altering our current system of policing and mass incarceration but rather if you were to create a new system to replace it and better fit communities needs with more accountability.

Rather than patch a hole in the raft, build a better boat.
