I don't inherently disagree with the sentiment, although I know his reasoning is different than mine. Children should have to overcome a bunch of hurdles to be given potentially life altering medication. No matter if it's hormones or something equally as impactful. . The truth is that kids latch on to the newest thing. Whenever homosexuality was becoming more mainstream, not homosexual people came onto the scene because it was the "it" thing. That's not to say that being trans is a fad, but tons of kids are influenced by things and make decisions that don't necessarily reflect what they want long term. Shit, I got a tattoo at 18 that I'm going to get lasered off when I can afford it. If I had decided to get my penis removed then, I would have regretted it now. But ultimately, and I know I'm going to get hate for this, being transgender is a subset of body dysmorphic disorder. It just so happens that the treatment is hormones and genital surgery. But it's still a mental disorder, and should be treated as such for children.
