Moron, imbecile and idiot were all used similary but we moved on and they are just common insults now. *removed* became this special restricted word because of circumstances and timing but ultimately it's no less insulting for some random person to call you a moron than if they called you a *removed*. *removed* acrually has a wider meaning to moron, imbecile or idiot so it's really weird that it's become singled out to the point where it's called the "the r-word"

That's because it's used as a slur.
