Python @programming.dev random question, what is that chicken thing called? And can that doughy exterior somehow be recreated at home, ideally without several liters of oil??

I don't know how to make it, but with the name I'm sure you can search for the method online
5 0 Replysnugglesthefalse @sh.itjust.works Nah sweet and sour chicken isn't necessarily battered, it's just the sauce
3 1 ReplyVespair @lemm.ee Yes, I'm aware, but that is also what the dish is called at most American Chinese takeout restaurants. Yes, you may have to add "+battered" to your "sweet and sour chicken" websearch, but I promise you doing so will absolutely get you to recipes for this dish.

i believe you cook some rice, fry some battered chicken bits, and pour some sweet&sour sauce into a small bowl

Masterbaexunn @lemmy.world I've tried in an air fryer before, it wasn't awesome. Definitely edible, but the dough never plumped up or whatever it's called
2 0 ReplyJadenSmith @sh.itjust.works I've had a local place literally call them Chicken Balls.
I'm not sure if you'd want to Google for a recipe tbh.
