UK-US air strikes launched against Houthis in Yemen
It comes after the US said it would counter attacks on shipping in the Red Sea launched by the Yemeni group.

naturalgasbad @lemmy.ca Aren't they operated by Hapag Lloyd, which both maintains a Two Aviv office and is currently still shipping to Israel?
Enforcement of sanctions is a legitimate use of AIS. Evasion of sanctions is subject to the appropriate risks.
2 2 ReplyMaggoty @lemmy.world That's not how sanctions, blockades, or embargoes work. The world economy would never survive if it was. If you declare war on anyone whose ever set foot in Israel then you are, again, de facto declaring war on the entire world.
The Houthis really fucked up.
3 1 Replynaturalgasbad @lemmy.ca And yet, COSCO is still transiting Bab-el-Mandeb.
2 2 ReplyMaggoty @lemmy.world Congratulations you found the exception?
2 1 Replynaturalgasbad @lemmy.ca The world economy can survive without Israel, as COSCO has plainly demonstrated.
That's sort of the goal of sanctions.
2 2 ReplyMaggoty @lemmy.world Nobody said shit about surviving without Israel. The Houthis shut down the straight leading to the Suez Canal. That is not a blockade of Israel. It is a blockade of the busiest international shipping route in the world.
2 0 Replynaturalgasbad @lemmy.ca Except, again, they clearly haven't because COSCO literally just transited it.
1 1 ReplyMaggoty @lemmy.world Someone running the blockade does not mean there is no blockade.
2 0 Replynaturalgasbad @lemmy.ca COSCO has been very explicit about how they are complying with Yemeni sanctions. How, exactly, is that running a blockade?
1 1 ReplyMaggoty @lemmy.world They're just lucky.

nekandro @lemmy.ml You do realize that that's exactly what's happening to Cuba, and the world economy is still functioning?
Oh, wait, are we still pretending that Kennedy didn't place a blockade on Cuba?
1 2 ReplyMaggoty @lemmy.world The blockade ended on November 20th 1962. Any non US ships can go to Cuba just fine.
