Dude, public transport can be terrifying, but it depends. I agree with all the other points. It can be scary being trapped in a moving box when someone starts getting hostile. That was experience on busses about 1/10 times? I'm not sure, but it did freak me out. Usually, the worst part was just getting talked at even though I was wearing headphones.
We definitely need more public transportation, though.
Jesus - where do you live that 1 out of every 10 times you take mass transit, it's a harrowing affair?
USA 💀
The thousands of times I've taken trains and subways in NYC, I've seen some weird people, but never any scary ones, and the ny subway seems to have the worst reputation too.
Socal. It depends on the length of the trip and the area. Our public transport sucks. If it was a short bus trip to college, no problems. EVERYTIME I went to the beach something happened. I have no idea why.
I take public transit every day and I’ve never experienced anything that could be described as terrifying. I think you’re full of shit.
Lucky, lmao
Can you give us some examples of your terrifying public transit experiences?
I don't want to think about it too much. I'll keep it quick:
Random person dying on the back of the bus. Someone threatening the bus driver over a lack of bus fair (too the point of fighting the bus driver with hands). Someone fighting someone for a seat, and they miss a punch and hit an old lady. I think you're full of shit. Public transportation is highly contextual. I want more, and I want it to be safe. I want it to be free to people regardless of background. Again, I'm talking socal.
My worst one was getting chased down and then getting mugged at the bus stop. The second worst was keeping someone from attacking my partner while I tried to talk them down. I know it's anecdotal, that's why I said "1/10, but I'm not sure." That was my main form of transportation for about 5 years. I believe it was called an "M-pass,".
I try not to think about it because when people do those things, I want to forgive them. It fucking hurts. We need more public transportation, but I won't romanticize it. We need to make it safer for possible victims, just like what we need to do with Uber and Lyft.
Did these things actually happen or do you just have anxiety?
Idk, are you sure your not just an asshole, and not a critical thinker? Yes, they happened. If I wanted attention I'd be on reddit.
Sure.
