Those were the days, when your Craftsman tool broke (no, they did sometimes, really) you'd take it back to Sears and get a replacement for free.
While the quality of the tools may not be quite as good Lowe’s and Home Depot I believe still do this with their store brands also
Lowe's isn't going to take a socket set off the shelf and open it to hand you the 12mm the way Sears used to.
They replaced a 12 and a breaker bar just last weekend for me when I was doing a brake job which is the only reason I felt obliged to respond.
The quality of the tools isn’t as good, and they’re banking on most folks buying a new replacement, but they do still replace THEIR brand
