You can turn off auto-updates you know. Old MacOS versions continue to get security patches for years afterwards.

I have a 13 years old macbook with mx Linux on it. Works great. Faster than whatever last osx version it supported.

Also have a 13 year old macbook air with LMDE, at some point they're basically useless without Linux.
