I thought that the US charging people with terrorism willy-nilly was already par for the course
There's no domestic terrorism charge in the US. Only foreign organizations can be declared to be terrorist organizations. First Amendment.
Edit: And even then only giving material support for such organizations is a chargeable offense.

Oh true. Lemme correct that: There's nothing such as a domestic terrorist organization in the US. The point being that it's impossible under US law to make affiliation with or support for a domestic organization a criminal act. The charge is dubious all around, but it's not an attack on free speech.
No organisations. Individuals can be declared terrorists and held indefinitely and have their human rights violated up to and including torture without even seeing a judge. USA! USA! USA!
Are there US citizens in Gitmo? If so then that's definitely fucked up, if no then it's still fucked up, but it's the imperialist kind of fucked up which is a completely different conversation.
What does the citizenship matter? Is a person only entitled to not being tortured if they have a specific piece of paper?
I'm pretty sure I already addressed that.
As if the current administration gives a fuck about the constitution.
