I am not religious, and I am not old, but this does not sit right with me. I don't know who the person in photo is, but we are "hating" on them just because they look old?
I understand it is a "meme" and i should laugh at "stereotypical karen" but is not that one of the things that people state they disliked about reddit?
Look up "meme" and "stock photos".
Your blood pressure will thank you
i don't have high blood pressure, thankss for the concern though
i know it is a stock photo (did not know, but guessed), but can i still not find it wrong. i think my original point still stays, hating random old people is not fun to me.
Whoosh
I think you need to google "memes" and "stock photos" again buddy. Your adrenal glands will thank you
ok boomer
/s ?
I can only speak from my own experiences, so I don't know if this happens in other countries, but in the US, this is a very specific kind of Christian.
I used to work retail with a very religious old lady who was excommunicated from the Catholic church because her husband divorced her (he divorced her, not the other way around, and she was the one who was punished, but that's a different absurd topic) and this meme would describe her brother, who she talked about with absolute vitriol.
She would describe him as acting like he was a saint despite partaking in every vice you can imagine and being a complete asshole to everybody around him during the week, all because he went to church every Sunday and therefore that made him a good Christian.
These are a particular kind of holier-than-thou person who expect the world to bend to their whim because of the number of times that they've circled the sun on this rock we call Earth and believe that they have the right to treat service staff like trash in the way that royalty treated their servants.
I am sorry for your experience, but generalisation is what i did not like. I am not in us, or a place where christianity is the major relegion. The behaviour may be region specific, but still, this seems wierd to me.
No worries, my point was that this is actually not a generalization, but about a very specific type of person. People, especially those who work in restaurants in the US, would see this and know exactly the person that this is about. They've all seen at least a few of them and could probably call them out by name.
The meme is not about the specific person in the photo. You're not supposed to hate the specific person in the photo. It's about the type of person described in the text and the picture is just a stand-in for those people.
This type of Christian is very real and numerous and make service workers lives much harder. This meme, I believe, is by and for the people who are effected by their attitudes.
I think you might not enjoy the meme because you haven't had experience with this type of Christian. That's okay. Not every meme has to be for everyone. But please, don't let your takeaway be that we hate the specific woman in from the photo.
my take away was never hating person in photo (that part was just in case we are hating the person in photo, but my second para in the original comment is what i got - old relegious person is rude to service worker). I have not experienced it, so i can not relate, sorry.
It's not about being old. Or a women. Or a driver. Or white. This is about Christians and more widely religious hypocrisy. Christianity preaches tolerance, humility, not judging others, and yet these are the same people who gave trump the power. Objectively and according to the bible, this guy is the fucking antichrist: luxury, vanity, greed, adultery, etc. name a sin and he has made it an art of living. So yeah, fuck them all.
Bingo
Age isn't really a factor in the way you're perceiving it here.
There's a very large population of US Christians who think it's a sin to work on Sunday but who also go out to eat in restaurants when they leave church. That particular population of Christians is pretty demanding and on the whole are bad tippers.
I grew up going to several of those churches. If my mom had to work her retail job on a Sunday, the Church Ladies™ would tut about it and say what a shame it was for her to be working on The Lord's Day™. But then they would turn right around and head out for lunch at the nearest buffet restaurant where they'd run the server ragged for two hours and leave a dollar or two as a tip on their entire bill. They never understood how hypocritical their actions were.
Oh there are plenty of 20-30-something’s that are Jesus Karen’s. If you have ever worked retail in the US, you would no doubt have encountered one in the wild. They are terrible people, who deserve as much shit as they dish out.
Jesus Karens cross age, race, and gender gaps with ease but it's often in my experience been older ladies.
The sad thing is that these are also the type who usually spread hate more than they spread love via racism, sexism, generationism, looking down on anyone not believing the same way they believe, and just generally being assholes except for one hour a week.
I think that's just Meryl Streep in one of her roles, an actor known for playing those 'Karen' roles.
Calm down, sir. This is a meme.
can i not just express my non liking. I did not yell or abuse, so i don't know what i did to convey that i am not calm
What a stupid take..
