  • But I did mention earlier that we'd get back to this so let us. Jordan has demonstrated time and time again that he looks for a fight, actively enjoys trolling, and wants to be as antagonistic as humanly possible. There are times he's summoned into YPTB with an @ but other times he isn't. Honestly I don't want to go through each and everyone of these showing that this is shitty, troll-like and antagonistic behavior.

Do not mistake refusing to back down from a fight with seeking out a fight. It doesn't take an @ to bring me here. More often than not someone sends me a PM along the lines of "You seeing this shit?" and honestly, I don't unless someone links me to it as was the case with this post.

TPTB has this idea that mods in general (and me specifically) are no lifers just looking for excuses to fuck with people. I can't speak for other mods, but that's not the case for me.

I clear the mod queue, and in my idle browsing of the groups I moderate, I remove content I come across organically. I might see a post clearly showing "youtube.com" or some other obviously bad domain and go "Well, fuck, that has to go."

Hilariously, just the other day an established user, @TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world posted a video to Politics and I had to reply in the effect of "Dude, you know better than that!"

There was no drama there, they got their links and communities mixed up, eh, it happens.

But I'm not stalking communities or users looking for people saying shit about me, or trying to find ways to fuck with people. You might not believe it, but I do have better things to do.

Moderating is a lot like pruning in that respect. In another week or so it's time to go out and brutally hack down my roses so they can grow back in the spring, my wife hates seeing the de-nuded rose stumps and yells at me EVERY YEAR, but it's necessary.

So to you, you are a fighter instead of the referee. If the referee started punching Mike Tyson, the game is suddenly over as we need a new ref who won't start shit.

Mask off moment, you're not a moderator, you're a fighter who banishes those he can't beat.

    • Why the fuck does a moderator need to fight?

      • That is actually a GREAT question... I haven't fully gone through this whole thread yet, but as a sample, welcome to YPTB!

"I never expected a genuine answer from him."

"a racist, zionist, liar, who uses his power tools to silence dissent."

        "Jordy is fucking cunt."

"Zionist, removes people who call him out, hates black people, and trans people."

"Your behavior in these comments throughout this thread have honestly been just as bad, if not worse, than the entire post"

"You behave like a petulant child who is incapable of admitting fault."

"You will lie about things that are directly linked either in an attempt to gaslight other users into buying your story or because you've genuinely deluded yourself."

"You're an embarrassment and one so low on the totem pole that I'm kinda done leaning down to speak to."

"but this just stinks of racism."

"You are a liar. If you are lying about things we can openly prove then the assumption naturally would be that you're lying about everything else as well."

"I eagerly await your next lie."

"If you ever feel pointless, remember that you're not JordanLund."

        • Maybe it's because you pick fights with everyone, and it's actually you that's the problem. Hmm, interesting!

          • I don't pick fights, but I won't run away from one either, which is the whole point of replying here. :)

            • You shouldn't do that as a moderator. You cannot be impartial if you cannot control yourself.

            • You never responded to this or this. You running away from things like that instead of addressing them is one of the serious objections I have to you being in a moderation role.

Like I said, I do disagree with some of this criticism of you (the "transphobia" thing in particular) and I really dislike the practice of gangs of Lemmy users gathering around and harassing and attacking mods they don't like, which has now happened in this thread. If you would be willing to admit error when people are discussing something where you clearly didn't know something going into it, just admitting that you're a person with the capacity for error sometimes like any of us instead of viewing it as a "fight" you have to "win," then I would probably be in this thread trying to defend you against the more bullshit of the accusations. But. The kind of disrespect for other people you're displaying by just pretending that valid disagreement like those links doesn't exist, falling silent instead of addressing it in any way and then reverting afterwards to pretending you hadn't heard it, is just really hard to justify in any way to me.

The interesting trend is that a lot of users here seem to have directly experimented JL's power tripping. This wouldn't happen with the vast majority of mods who limit themselves to a few communities and/or who aren't as combative in their comments.

                • Well, but that's also a self-selection issue. For anyone with any level of Lemmy authority who falls into that "alleged liberal" category, I have observed that an absolute cornucopia of people are going to come out of the woodwork and start SHRIEKING about all kinds of sins they committed which are often completely made up, and after a while that person's proven awfulness starts to become part of the collective memory for reasons that Goebbels explained very well.

With Jordan specifically the issue's more complicated. I definitely agree that his moderation decisions actually are often pretty bad and I agree with a lot of the post. But when people are personally insulting him in this thread, mischaracterizing what he said, all kinds of things like that, or just kind of jeering at him in a general way and demanding that he must be removed just because there are a lot of them and they're all jeering, I'm not in favor of that.

I honestly don't really care about a mod being combative in their comments. There are mods in the in-group who are super combative in their comments sometimes, and none of the in-group or the community as a whole has any problem with it (nor do I). And obviously anyone who's super-active as a mod is going to have a lot of mod actions to pick through looking for bad ones to highlight and use to criticize them. I care a lot more just about their judgement overall with moderation controls being good, and them being reasonable most of the time. That's why Jordan doubling down on bad calls or just falling into a cowardly silence sometimes is such a big deal to me: It means it's not just a single bad call, it's more indicative of the whole of how he deliberately and consciously wants to do things.

                    Indeed

              • I am working on replies today, coming off 3 consecutive 12 hour work days. I'll check those links shortly! Sitting on 26 messages now.

        • Maybe don't make people hate you for being a petty, racist, transphobic asshole, who bans people who call his opinions and issues out.

If you looked in a mirror more often, you'd probably have a better image on Lemmy. Instead you're the perfect embodiment of .world and it's moderation.

Remove what you disagree with, then get mad at people who called it out.

        • This is what people say about you in places you can't ban them, yes.
