Randy Fine secures GOP nomination, fending off millions spent by Dan Bilzerian
Just a moment...
First results from the Volusia County Supervisor of Elections showed Fine won about 58% of the vote, while anti-Israel influencer Dan Bilzerian took under 19%, Sorrento activist Aaron Baker won under 14% and Palm Coast City Council Member Charles Gambaro had under 10% of the vote.
The CD 6 Primary ends an incendiary Primary cycle where Bilzerian often attacked Fine’s heritage and labeled him a “fat Jew.” But plenty of ugly rhetoric also emerged from Fine himself, particularly his attacks against Muslims.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations called for Fine’s resignation after he called the Palestinian identity “evil” and said the only way to deal with mainstream Muslims is to “destroy them first.” The group re-upped that call when Fine on social media wrote, regarding a debate about dog ownership in New York City, “if they force us to choose, the choice between dogs and Muslims is not a difficult one.” The rhetoric also drew a rebuke from the Congressional Jewish Caucus, and prompted Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood to rescind his own support for Fine.
